Q: Do I need permission to place the skip on my property / site, or on the road?
A: If you are planning to place the skip either on your property or your site, then you will not need to obtain a skip permit.
However, if you plan to place the skip on the road, then a permit will be required from the local council.
As part of the Nationwide Direct service, we will obtain a permit on your behalf, allowing the skip to be placed on the road.

Q: What can I put in the skip?
A: You can put inert waste, general builders waste, restricted garden waste, domestic waste and non-hazardous waste into a skip, however, due to environmental legislation there are restrictions on certain types of waste that are classified as 'special & hazardous' and have to be treated separately.
Please see our Skip Waste Guide as to what can and cannot be put in a skip or contact a member of our sales team for advice.

|
Q: How much can I put in the skip?
A: All skips must not be filled higher than the top of the skip sides. Overloading is dangerous and can present a hazard to other road users whilst the skip is in transit.
Also by overloading, this will cause the skip vehicle to exceed it's legal weight limit and could result in a fine for the driver.
Any skips overloaded and filled excessively will have the excess waste removed prior to taking away.

|
Q: Can I burn rubbish in a skip?
A: Under no circumstances can you burn rubbish in a skip.
Any person who causes a fire in a skip will liable for any damage and re-painting costs and may also face prosecution.

|
Q: What access do I need to provide?
A: The vehicles delivering to your property / site are light and heavy goods vehicles depending on the size of the skip.
Please make sure that there is sufficient access to enable the vehicle to get in and out safely.
If in doubt, please call a member of our sales team who can advise you, and if required, supply you with approximate dimensions.

Q: Is my waste recycled?
A: Nationwide Direct is accredited with ISO 14001, the internationally recognised standard for the environmental management of businesses.
As such, our commitment to recycling and the environment is paramount. On average, most of our depots throughout the uk endeavour to recycle at least 80% of waste from skips. This is achieved by detecting ways to minimise waste going to landfill sites and learning to recycle more effectively and efficiently.
